George Clooney’s girlfriend, Italian model Elisabetta Canalis, has been implicated in a cocaine scandal.
Reports say Canalis is being investigated after a witness testified, claiming she saw her snorting cocaine at a Milan nightclub in 2007.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera says an investigation was launched in 2008 into two Milan nightclubs (The Club and Hollywood), following allegations that they were running a drug-feulled escort and prostitution ring.
“I remember taking cocaine with Elisabetta Canalis and two others,” says witness, cum-model-turned-prostitute Karima Menad.
“We were in The Club and it was December 2007,” added Menad. “We had been at a party of some famous, rich celebrity whose name I cannot remember. I don’t remember who brought the drugs but we all took it.”
Menad’s testimony to prosecutor Frank Di Maio in 2008 apparently led to five people being arrested, and both clubs being shut down.
Both nightclubs, according to the newspaper, were a magnet for wealthy celebs, and worked on the principle of giving “free cocaine for VIP’s”, who in turn spent more money paying for sexual intercourse with the prostitutes.
“The VIP’s were protected, hidden…able to safely conduct themselves in any way, hidden from the court of public opinion,” Di Maio said.
“They were often given cocaine for free by those who want to sit at a table of famous people…they want the visibility that comes from being seated at a central table, and to be seen with models, or celebrities from fashion, entertainment and sport.
“We’re talking about girls of various nationalities, who operated as PR for the clubs – the so-called ‘image girls’, joining clients at private tables, inducing them to drink alcohol in order to increase the bill and offering sexual services at locations away from the club,” he added.
Canalis and Clooney weren’t an item at the time of the alleged incident.
The press has been in a frenzy for weeks, foaming at the mouth over speculation that Clooney’s about to propose to Canalis. Maybe he’s had a change of heart!
